Editorial and Corrections Policy
The legal information on mcgarrylaw.ca is written for people facing criminal charges in Ottawa and Ontario, and for their families. This page explains who is responsible for it, how it is checked and how to report an error.
-
Brett McGarry, criminal defence lawyer licensed by the Law Society of Ontario since 2008 (licence 55042M), is responsible for every legal page on this site. Some pages are drafted or edited with the help of a marketing consultant, under his responsibility.
-
Statements about the law are checked against primary sources: the Criminal Code of Canada and other federal statutes on the Justice Laws Website, Ontario statutes and Ministry of Transportation publications, and decisions of the Supreme Court of Canada and Ontario courts. Pages that deal with penalties or procedure show the date of their last legal review.
-
Criminal law changes through new legislation and new court decisions. The pages on impaired driving, assault and bail are reviewed at least once a year, and whenever a relevant law changes. Case results describe the law as it applied at the time of the case.
-
If you believe a page contains an error or is out of date, write to brett@mcgarrylaw.ca with the page address and the passage concerned. Substantive corrections are made promptly and noted at the bottom of the page with the date of the change.

The content of this site is general legal information. It is not legal advice and does not create a lawyer-client relationship. Every case depends on its own facts. For advice on your situation, contact a lawyer.
